‘Interview with the Vampire’ will be screened in the magnificent Seaton Delaval Hall Saloon, home to the UK's largest known pipistrelle bat hibernation roost. It's thought that several bat species made the hall their home following the fire of 1822 which partially destroyed the building and left it without a roof for nearly 40 years. The bats are no stranger to our festival screenings at Seaton Delaval Hall, first making an appearance during a screening of Nosferatu, taking flight above the screen to much delight of the audience.

To give us a brief insight into their habitat we will be joined by bat ecologist Tina Wiffen. Tina has been studying the bats at Seaton Delaval Hall for several years and will provide a brief overview before the film.

Based on Anne Rice's 1976 novel of the same name, Interview with the Vampire is an American gothic horror film. The title sets the tone, and in the opening scenes, set in San Francisco, the 200-year-old vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac submits to an interview by a modern journalist just as any serial killer or terrorist bomber might sit down to talk to "60 Minutes." His story begins in the late 1700s, in New Orleans, that peculiar city where even today all things seem possible, and where, after losing his wife and daughter, he threw himself into a life of grief and debauchery. His path crossed that of the vampire Lestat who transformed him into a vampire, and ever since he has wandered the world's great cities, feeding on the blood of his victims.

Seaton Delaval Hall – Venue information

Seaton Delaval Hall is one of the most important historic houses and designed landscapes in Britain. This Grade 1 listed building was designed by renowned 18th century playwright and architect Sir John Vanburgh, who also designed Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard. Seaton Delaval Hall was the theatrical backdrop for one of the most notorious of all Georgian families. The Delaval family were famous for their love of acting, hosting big parties and playing wild tricks. Seaton Delaval Hall has just completed a four-year £7.4m regeneration project, which captures the theatrical and flamboyant essence of the notorious’gay Delavals’.
